Spelling sticks best in small doses, often, rather than a long session once a week. Five minutes a day beats an hour on a Sunday.

Word lists

Words to learn

On its way

Word lists grouped by difficulty are coming, and they’ll be readable on a phone as well as printable — so you don’t need a printer to use them.

No preparation needed

Three ways to make a word stick

None of these need anything you haven't already got in the house.

Say it, cover it, write it

Look at the word, say it out loud, cover it up, write it from memory, then check. The covering-up is the bit that does the work.

Find the tricky part

Most words are only hard in one place. Underline the bit that catches you out and practise that, not the whole word.

Use it in a sentence

A word you've used is a word you remember. Make the sentence daft if it helps — daft is memorable.
