The sensory room

A large, calm room designed for people who need one — autistic visitors, visitors living with dementia, anyone who finds the ordinary world a bit much some days.

What to expect

A quiet place to be

There’s no age limit. Two years old or ninety-two, it’s the same room and you’re equally welcome.

A quiet space with sensory equipment, soft lighting and room to move or be still. Bring whoever needs to come with you.

We’re still writing up the full list of what’s in the room. If there’s something specific you need, ring and ask — we’d rather tell you before you travel.

Support

Somewhere to talk about bullying

This is also the room where we sit with children who are being bullied.

There’s no formality to it. A child comes in, usually with a parent or carer, and talks to someone whose whole job is to listen. Sometimes that’s all of it. Sometimes it turns into work with their school, through our youth champions.

It doesn’t cost anything, there’s no waiting list, and you don’t need a referral.

Every week

Two groups meet here

The Dementia Group meets on Monday afternoons, 1–3pm. Mums and Tums also meets here — ring us for the current times.

Both are £2 a session, and neither needs a referral. Come on your own or bring someone with you.

These two are the ones that run at Hub 1. There are ten more groups across the week — sewing, poetry, art, photography, crochet, Lego therapy and the rest — nearly all of them at Hub 2.
