Every Wednesday, at Hub 1

Art Classes

Diane runs her art classes at Hub 1 every Wednesday, all day. Sit down, make something, and have someone who paints for a living show you how.

Artydi

Diane runs them

The classes are Diane’s, run under her own name, Artydi. She paints wildlife and fantasy, and she has a colouring book out — The Skitlets.

She is also a portrait artist by trade, which is worth knowing if you are wondering whether the class is any good. There is more about her work below.

She is here every Wednesday. You do not need to have painted before, and you do not need to be any particular age — but both of those are hers to answer rather than ours, so ring her and ask.

This one is Diane's, not ours

Diane is an outside tutor using the hub, so the charity’s £2 session fee does not apply and we cannot book you in. Ring her rather than the hub and she will sort you out.

There's plenty else on

Crochet, sewing, poetry, card making, diamond art, lego therapy and more run through the week across the three hubs.

Diane paints portraits

Diane Y Wilkinson BA (Hons) is a portrait artist based in the North West. Her commissions have come from around the world over the years, and a fair few of them have been of people you would recognise.

One of them is this portrait of Dame Helen Mirren, painted while she was playing DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect and filming in the area. Dame Helen bought it — wearing, as Diane tells it, her favourite pearls. A member of the film crew joked that you could leave the painting in the window and people would think she was in.

Diane Y Wilkinson's painted portrait of Dame Helen Mirren, looking through a gap in white net curtains and wearing several strands of pearls.

Her work

What Diane paints

Three of hers. She works mostly in black and white, from photographs, and the classes are taught by someone who does this for a living.

  • A painting by Diane Y Wilkinson of two people embracing in breaking surf, in black and white.
  • A painting by Diane Y Wilkinson of a couple standing close, the woman barefoot and holding her heels.
  • A black and white portrait of Marilyn Monroe, painted by Diane Y Wilkinson.

If you want one of your own

Commissioning Diane

She takes commissions directly. People ask her for family members, for pets, and often for memorial portraits — and for one-off pieces that pull several images together, anything from A4 up to a whole wall.

She works from your own photographs and keeps you posted as she goes, so you see it taking shape rather than finding out at the end.

Commissions are between you and Diane

This is Diane’s own work rather than anything the charity sells or arranges, so the price, the timings and the terms are hers. Kindness Counts UK takes no part in it and no cut of it.
